Windscribe is for sale to Australians at printed USD prices, with unlimited personal devices, WireGuard/OpenVPN/IKEv2 apps, advertised five-city AU exits, and a genuine free plan that does not include Australia. The honest yearly list is US$69, not US$5.75/month cancellable; a same-day Back to School promo printed US$39/year. The operator is a Canadian company in Five Eyes. Packetlabs and Leviathan PDFs were read; they are not proof of zero retained account data. Advertised Australian servers are not data residency. No independent speed, leak or streaming tests were run.

- Australian personal-VPN buyers who can pay USD, want a real free tier or unlimited-device apps and advertised AU city exits, will accept a Canadian legal entity, and will open dated public audit PDFs rather than a lab test.

Terms: providing an email for extra free bandwidth is permission to send promotional offers; unsubscribing drops the account to the basic free plan. Packetlabs May 2024 found protocol logging on the in-scope node; the June 2024 retest marked that finding remediated. Court/seizure write-ups are vendor narratives, not inspected case files.
Account/control-plane data is not described as stored in Australia. Ethics: self-hosted, no third-party website analytics. This is not a numeric privacy score.

Australia VPN page 12 Sep 2026 advertises Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Upgrade location picker: Australia 10 Pro Data Centers. assets.windscribe.com/serverlist/mob-v2/1 the same day listed those five AU cities, ten groups, all pro=1, and 74 locations / 71 country codes overall (including Fake Antarctica AQ). Marketing copy the same day also printed 69+ countries / 112 cities on /upgrade, 69+ / 135+ on the homepage, 190+ locations on /vpn-servers, and over 85 countries in that page's FAQ. Those vendor figures were not reconciled here. KB: servers are physically in the advertised country except Fake Antarctica (Toronto). That is vendor documentation, not a traceroute. An Australian exit IP is not Australian data residency. data_hosting stays unknown rather than a green AU badge.

Original test: low overall risk; finding 4.2.1 was protocol logging (IKEv2 origin IP in memory and auth.log; OpenVPN client-config-dir timestamps; microservice credential leaks). Retest 24 Jun 2024: those findings marked remediated on the in-scope node. Point-in-time, one node, not operating-effectiveness evidence after 24 Jun 2024, and not a numeric security score.
