About SoftwareHQ AU
Independent, Australia-focused software comparisons built for local compliance realities — not US feature lists.
Our Mission
Most software review sites are built for the US market. They rarely mention BAS lodgement, STP Phase 2, Modern Awards, or payday super — the compliance requirements that matter most to Australian businesses.
SoftwareHQ AU exists to fill that gap. We provide independent, Australia-focused software comparisons that evaluate products against the regulatory and operational requirements Australian businesses actually face.
Whether you’re a sole trader choosing your first accounting package or an SME evaluating payroll systems for 50 staff, our goal is to help you make an informed decision based on Australian compliance realities.
How We Research & Rate
Every product we review is scored across 7 Australian compliance dimensions: BAS lodgement, STP Phase 2, payday super readiness, Modern Award support, GST handling, AU bank feeds, and data sovereignty.
Our research process includes:
- Vendor documentation — official feature pages, pricing, help docs, and compliance pages. Review pages list the HTTP(S) sources recorded for that product.
- Editorial analysis — we interpret that public material for Australian buyers. Header scores are editorial assessments, not user-review averages.
- Firsthand records — public-website observations or live measurements when a record exists. Missing tests stay not tested. Vendor-provided screenshots on some reviews are labelled as vendor imagery. Listed sources are not evidence of paid-app testing. See How we test.
All prices are displayed in Australian Dollars (AUD) inclusive of GST unless a plan is quote-only. Where a capability is not applicable, not supported, or not verified, the review says so instead of treating a blank as a failed test.
For scoring, independence and affiliate rules, see our Editorial Policy. For evidence kinds and what a review did or did not inspect, see How we test.
Why Australia-Specific?
Australian businesses operate under a unique regulatory environment. BAS reporting, STP Phase 2 disaggregation, Modern Award interpretation, payday super (from July 2026), and CDR Open Banking are all distinctly Australian requirements that generic global reviews simply don’t cover.
We also verify Australian-specific factors that global review sites ignore: local data hosting, AEST/AEDT support hours, AUD pricing without hidden currency conversion, and integrations with Australian banks, super clearing houses, and the ATO.
Editorial Independence
Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you click through and purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund the site and keep it free.
However, affiliate relationships never influence our compliance scores, ratings, or recommendations. Products cannot pay for higher scores or more favourable reviews. Products without affiliate arrangements receive identical editorial treatment.
Editorial Background
SoftwareHQ AU is an independent editorial project focused on Australian business software. Reviews are attributed to the SoftwareHQ editorial team. Named author profiles are published only when a real person and supporting page exist; we do not invent reviewers or credentials.
Our editorial approach prioritises public, checkable sources over unstated opinion. Where we cannot verify a capability, we mark it unknown rather than scoring it as a test failure.
