Proton VPN is for sale to Australians in AUD with advertised local city exits, a genuine one-device free plan, documented 10-device Plus caps, WireGuard on the main apps, and a 30-day money-back window on an initial website purchase. The honest Plus price is the billed total: A$134.16 for 24 months, or A$15.99 every month if you actually want month-to-month. Tax at checkout was not observed; the API showed Swiss MWST 8.1%, not a printed GST line. The 2025 Securitum PDF was read; the 2026 PDF cover was opened on Proton Drive. Advertised Australian servers are not data residency. No independent speed, leak or streaming tests were run.

- Australian personal-VPN buyers who can read prepaid billed totals in AUD, want a real free tier or documented multi-device apps, and accept a no-logs claim plus dated Securitum server reports rather than a lab test.

- AUD prepaid 2-year intro is not A$5.59/month cancellable
On 12 Sep 2026 the 2-year VPN Plus card billed A$134.16 for 24 months and showed A$5.59/mo as the equivalent. The 1-month Plus card was A$15.99 billed every month. Do not budget the teaser as a cancellable monthly price.
- A genuine free plan — with tight caps
Proton Free needs no credit card. It is one device, medium speed, and 10 randomly selected countries. Unlimited volume is claimed; speed may still be restricted on free servers. Streaming, P2P, NetShield, Secure Core and split tunneling are Plus features. The A$1.00 first-month coupon is not the free plan.

Plans page and pricing table: VPN Plus and Unlimited connect up to 10 devices at the same time. Free is one. A router uses one connection. Starting listed paid plan is Plus. Not a measured throughput claim.
- Advertised Australian city exits
The Australia servers page names Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. That is an advertised exit map, not physical-versus-virtual proof and not Australian account data residency.
- WireGuard plus Stealth — platform limits apply
WireGuard is documented on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux. Stealth (obfuscated WireGuard-over-TCP, stored as other) is on those apps except Linux GUI unless Proton Protocols beta is on. OpenVPN remains in the Linux GUI only. IKEv2 is macOS-only and being withdrawn. This is not an independent speed test.
- No-logs claim with public Securitum PDFs
The May 2026 Securitum no-logs PDF is public on Proton Drive (cover inspected). The August 2025 Securitum PDF was downloaded from securitum.com and read. Both are point-in-time server reviews. Account, payment and anti-abuse data are still described as processed.

Windows: How-to (12 Sep 2026): WireGuard UDP/TCP and Stealth (stored as other) on Windows. Smart Protocol is the default selector. OpenVPN is listed as Linux GUI only. Kill switch Standard and Advanced. Split tunneling include/exclude apps and IPs; kill switch can be used with split tunneling on Windows. Not leak-tested.
macOS: WireGuard UDP/TCP and Stealth (other). IKEv2 is still listed for macOS only and is being phased out. OpenVPN was removed from the macOS app (manual third-party config remains). Kill switch has documented limitations: brief IP exposure when switching servers; some Apple-service DNS can bypass the VPN; LAN access blocked when kill switch is on. Split tunneling is experimental, exclude-apps only, WireGuard/Stealth only, and does not work with WebKit apps including Safari.
iOS: WireGuard and Stealth. IKEv2 is no longer supported on iOS/iPadOS; OpenVPN was removed from the app. Kill switch is documented; some Apple-service DNS can bypass the VPN; LAN access blocked when enabled. Advanced kill switch is beta. Split-tunneling how-to does not list iOS.
