Editorial verdict

Best Value AU-Built Accounting for Small Teams

Reckon One is still the cheap AU-owned modular option: Accounting Plus $24/mo and Premium $46/mo (AUD, GST included in the subscription price). Unlimited invoices and users. Payroll is a separate banded add-on. BAS is prepare-and-lodge-elsewhere unless you add GovReports. Vendor states AU data hosting.

Best for
Cost-conscious small businesses (1–10 employees) that want affordable AU-built, AU-hosted accounting and payroll without per-employee pricing.
Not ideal for
Businesses needing complex Modern Award interpretation, extensive third-party integrations, or direct BAS lodgement without add-ons.

Overview

Reckon One is australian-built cloud accounting with flat-rate payroll. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in North Sydney, NSW, Australia, it serves Australian businesses with local data hosting and AU-based support.

Feature highlights

These highlights come from vendor documentation and editorial analysis of public sources. They are not firsthand test results or a claim that every listed capability was exercised in a trial.

  • Flat-Rate Payroll Pricing

Unlike Xero and MYOB which charge per-employee for payroll, Reckon One offers flat-rate payroll plans: $16/month for up to 4 employees or $32/month for up to 10 employees. This makes Reckon One significantly cheaper for businesses with multiple employees — a 10-employee business pays $32/month total, not $10/employee/month.

  • Australian-Built and AU-Hosted

Reckon is one of the few ASX-listed (RKN) Australian-built accounting platforms. All data is hosted exclusively on AWS Sydney across 3 availability zones with AES-256 encryption. Unlike Xero (NZ-founded) or QuickBooks (US-founded), Reckon was incorporated in Australia in 1987.

  • Payday Super Ready via Beam

Reckon Payroll includes built-in Beam SuperStream integration for processing super contributions. Available since July 2024, it lets you calculate, lodge, and pay super directly from Reckon Payroll with real-time validation — ready for the Payday Super deadline of 1 July 2026.

  • 100+ Bank Feeds via Open Banking

Reckon One connects to all Big 4 Australian banks via direct feeds, plus 100+ additional financial institutions through Open Banking (ACSISS) and Yodlee aggregation. Three connection methods ensure broad coverage across major banks, credit unions, and neobanks.

  • Reckon Mate Employee App

Reckon Mate is a free employee-facing mobile app that lets staff add their personal, banking, tax, and super details directly, which then syncs to Reckon Payroll. Employees can view payslips, submit leave requests, and track expenses from their phone.

  • Modular Pricing — Pay Only for What You Need

Reckon One lets you choose accounting and payroll plans independently. Need accounting without payroll? Pay $24/month. Need payroll without full accounting? Start at $16/month. This modular approach avoids paying for bundled features you don't use.

AU Compliance Scores

These scores apply to Australian tax, payroll and banking capabilities where they are relevant to Reckon One. They are SoftwareHQ editorial judgements from public documentation, not firsthand product tests.

Not applicable means this product type is not scored on that dimension (for example BAS lodgement on a CRM). Not supported means the vendor does not offer it. Unknown means we could not verify it from public sources — that is not the same as unsupported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Reckon One lodge BAS directly to the ATO?
Reckon One prepares your BAS with automatic GST calculations and BAS mapping, but direct lodgement to the ATO requires the free GovReports add-on from the Reckon Marketplace. GovReports uses Standard Business Reporting (SBR) to lodge directly to the ATO. This is an extra step compared to Xero and MYOB which have BAS lodgement built in.
Is Reckon One Australian-made?
Yes. Reckon Limited was incorporated in 1987 and is headquartered in North Sydney, NSW. It is listed on the ASX (ticker: RKN) and all Reckon One data is hosted on AWS servers in Sydney. Reckon is one of the few genuinely Australian-built accounting platforms alongside MYOB.
How much does Reckon One cost in Australia in 2026?
Accounting Plus $24/month and Accounting Premium $46/month (AUD). Reckon staff have stated the subscription includes a GST component; competitor tables also compare $24 against GST-inclusive Xero/MYOB/QuickBooks prices. Payroll is separate: Essentials $16 (up to 4 employees), Plus $32 (up to 10), Premium $60. New-customer $1 for 6 months promo was advertised through 30 Sep 2026. 30-day trial route is listed on comparison copy.
Is Reckon One ready for Payday Super?
Yes. Reckon Payroll includes built-in Beam SuperStream integration available since July 2024. You can calculate, lodge, and pay super directly from Reckon Payroll with real-time validation and payment history, meeting the Payday Super requirements effective 1 July 2026.
Does Reckon One have phone support?
Yes. Reckon offers AU-based phone support at 1300 756 663, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 7pm and weekends 9am to 4pm AEST. This is a significant advantage over Xero, which does not offer inbound phone support. Live chat is also available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
Why is Reckon One's payroll cheaper than Xero or MYOB?
Reckon One uses flat-rate payroll pricing instead of per-employee pricing. You pay $16/month for up to 4 employees or $32/month for up to 10 employees — the same price whether you have 1 employee or 10. Xero and MYOB both charge additional fees per employee beyond their included limits, making Reckon One significantly cheaper for businesses with multiple staff.
