• Billed currency on the public grid. NordVPN’s AU-locale pricing grid on 11 Sep 2026 printed AUD. ExpressVPN’s AU-locale session the same day printed USD, with cards stating sales tax may apply at checkout. A 10 February 2026 ExpressVPN blog said AUD local pricing was in testing and would show on the order page; this stored capture stayed USD. Checkout was not started, so whether an Australian card is charged in AUD remains unknown. Do not treat the USD billed total as an Australian-dollar amount.
• Introductory billed total and covered months. NordVPN 2-year Basic billed A$129.33 for 24 months plus three extra months (27 covered). ExpressVPN 2-year Basic billed USD$83.72 for 24 months plus four extra months (28 covered). Both intros are charged in full inside 12 months. The A$4.79 and USD$2.99 teasers are averages, not cancellable monthly prices. 479×12=5748 is not 12933; 299×12=3588 is not 8372. Columns stay in native currency.
• No-logs report access. NordVPN’s sixth Deloitte Lithuania ISAE 3000 engagement (report dated 12 Dec 2025) is described on the vendor blog; the full report is behind a Nord Account login and was not independently inspected. ExpressVPN’s KPMG LLP ISAE (UK) 3000 Type I report letter dated 8 May 2025 (TrustedServer controls as at 28 February 2025) was downloaded over HTTPS and inspected. Type I is a design opinion, not operating-effectiveness testing. A public PDF is not a numeric security score and not proof of zero retained account data. ExpressVPN’s Cure53 Lightway Rust PDF (3 Dec 2024) printed a High server-DoS finding (EXP-16-004).
• WireGuard-family protocol on macOS and Linux. NordVPN documents NordLynx (WireGuard-based) on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux, with OpenVPN as the documented fallback. ExpressVPN documents Lightway on those five apps. WireGuard is documented on ExpressVPN iOS, Android and Windows only — not macOS or Linux on the servers table. This is vendor documentation, not an app test and not a speed result.
• Split tunnel on Apple platforms. NordVPN’s split-tunneling how-to covers Windows/Android/Linux allowlist and does not give macOS or iOS app steps (unknown on those platforms). ExpressVPN documents split tunneling on macOS 11+ (apps plus IP/subnet) and on iOS as website/IPv4 exclusions, not per-app. Linux split tunnel is documented on both products.
• Simultaneous connections on the compared SKUs. NordVPN help documents 10 devices on one account at the same time. ExpressVPN Basic is also 10 simultaneous connections; Advanced is 12 and Express Pro is 14. The cash table uses Basic 2-year on both sides, so the documented cap is the same at those plans. We did not measure how many tunnels actually stay up.
• Legal entities and Five Eyes. NordVPN’s controller is nordvpn S.A. in Panama. ExpressVPN’s contract is with Express Technologies Ltd. in the British Virgin Islands (BVI law); the privacy policy names Kape Technologies PLC (UK) as the ultimate holding company since 2021. Five Eyes is no on both stored legal-entity fields. BVI is not a Five Eyes member; the UK parent is. Neither jurisdiction is Australian data residency.
• Bundled extras that are not the Basic VPN SKU. ExpressVPN Identity Defender is documented as US-only and is not treated as an Australian extra on Advanced or Express Pro. NordVPN next-gen antivirus, NordPass and NordLocker sit on Complete/Complete Max, not Basic. Those extras are not mixed into the Basic 2-year cash columns.
